It is a common misunderstanding that women are more serious in breakups than men. In reality, for everyone involved, the end of a relationship can be unbearable.
On Monday, we heard of men who recently broke hearts when a Reddit thread came up and asked people to reveal their last fraction.
What they had to say here is:
1. Keep busy
"This has only only begun, I plan to take some night classs during the weeks (perhaps a ballroom, cooking or something like that) and I get back to some hobbies. It will always be difficult, but don't get frozen in an egg!"
2. Don't be afraid to get emotional
"It's going to suck for a time, let it suck. Don't spend too much energy on trying to get better. Don't hold back, either. If you want to cry, or break something, or curl up into a ball and sleep, do it. It's part of the healing process."
3. Reward yourself
"Buy a new game, book, pick up a hobby, eat a bunch of ice cream (also known as the Female Method®), you wouldn't believe how well it works."
4. Get back out there
"Start having a bit more fun in life. Reconnect with old friends. Perhaps meet new people. Keep up the good habits but allow for some failures and maybe have a couple of flings to take your mind off the ex and remind yourself that there are other people out there."
5. Take time to better yourself
"I changed some of my bad habits that gave me a sense of control and something to focus on. Last big break up I quit smoking and started lifting, I'm like three to four breakups from perfection."
6. Cut all forms of contact
"Cut contact, delete Facebook, hit the gym. Time will make it better. Throw things away that remind you of her or of your relationship."
7. Rebound, even if it's casual
"I had a rebound fling where both parties were in mutual agreement (I wasn't leading the girl on or anything). Fun times."
8. Revel in your new found singledom
"Listen to a lot of music that's about being single."
